THE BELIEF PROJECT
The Belief Project is a show about the power of our beliefs, no matter how great or small. For four months we set out to collect as many beliefs as possible. We visited schools, community centres, spoke to family, friends and collected over 400 beliefs through an online Belief Submission Form.
These verbatim beliefs were intertwined with the story of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako was only two years old when atomic bombs hit Hiroshima. She suffered radiation poisoning as a result. At 12 she was diagnosed with fatal leukaemia. Sadako believed in the Japanese legend that promises good fortune to those who fold 1000 paper cranes. So she set about making them. Sadly, Sadako died before she completed the 1000.
The storytelling and beliefs are interspersed with an interactive origami session, taught by the performer. Each audience member creates one paper crane by the end of the show.
